As Union and Confederate forces clashed near Murfreesboro in the Battle of Stones River, the predecessor to The Daily News Journal was there to cover what would later be described as one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. The Murfreesboro News, founded in 1849, survived the war and continued through the years, merging with several competitors.
In 1931, The Home Journal, a daily publication, and the News-Banner merged to form The Daily News Journal. The newspaper was acquired by Gannett in February 2004 and now also publishes two weekly newspapers, Smyrna A.M. and Rutherford A.M., as well as Rutherford County's leading Web site, www.dnj.com.
It also collaborates with The Tennessean and other Gannett Tennessee operations to provide news and information for Middle Tennessee.
Rutherford Weekend, our Thursday full-run tabloid focusing on local places to go and things to do, is the area's only weekly entertainment resource. It focuses on the county's best happenings for the upcoming weekend, as well as restaurant profiles, live music listings, calendar information and exclusive columns that provide best bet and family-friendly recommendations.
We know that we can reach at least 16,000* additional shoppers beyond a cable, radio or TV buy with just 1 (one) ad in the weekday editions of The DNJ. If your local business captures 1% sales among the additional DNJ readers, that would equal 160 additional sales!
